E-Mailed Report 1 of 3:

Hi Alan

Thought i would drop you a note we had a great 13 day cruise up into the New England States with stops in Quebec AND Halifax as well as Newport, Bar Harbor, Portland, and don't forget Boston we didn't get off as it was the only rainy day we had and living a few miles south of there didn't think there was any thing we haven't all ready done with the family. i did have a lot of time to try out the new Antennas for both HF and SWL both in port and also while out at sea. even with the band conditions the way they have been i was able to copy qso's from the West Coast, South Africa, Europe, as well as some local station's on 40 and 75. i did get a chance to try out the SWL Antenna several nights and that too worked very well on my Kenwood TH6A. it takes the radio from hearing just about nothing with the whip antenna that comes with it to a very useful radio that i for one like to take along with me on my vacation's i did meet a couple of hams while using the radio on deck they were very in pressed and were going to contact you when they got back home to Ca. it's such a small world out there! well that's about all we have for now Alan

Just posted to the R20 users group:

I stumbled across a new antenna from Performance HF, designed especially for HT's like the R20. I read the specs, was a bit skeptical, but ordered one anyhow just to try it out and compare it with the other antennas I have used.

Gentlemen (and ladies) throw out your Miraclewhips and the stock R20 whip, this new whip is absolutely incredible. Sigs that were unreadable on the stock whip, popped out of the noise. Signals that were S2 on the so-called "Miraclewhip" were S7-S8 with the new whip.

Now, this isnt a cure all, but I was fascinated as hell how this thing could outperform every other antenna I have used (except, of course, my beam and the longwire). I e-mailed the inventor, and we exchanged several msgs back and forth. First of all, he was most accommodating and willing to talk and explain. Second, he Fedexed the antenna to me overnight at no extra charge. Third, he tossed in a few bonus goodies and asked me to put the antenna thru its paces and report back to him.

The antenna comes with both a BNC and a PL-259 adaptor. There are two models: one for shortwave broadcast listening and one for the ham bands. I bought the Performance HAM/HT model. Bands are selected by means of a series of mini-switches on the antenna's base. When it arrived, I plugged it in, tuned to WWV on 10.000, and its sig was barely audible. Pushing the 20 M button on the antenna, I was amazed to hear WWV suddenly at S5. I replaced the Performance antenna with the stock whip and nothing, no WWV. What a difference! I tried the Miraclewhip, still no WWV. Back to the Performance whip, and WWV was once again S5-6.

I'd be interested in hearing of others' experiences with this new whip. It's hard to describe what an improvement this antenna makes: you have to hear it for yourself.

By the way, I have no relationship to or interest in this company.

PS: I begged the inventor to come up with a model capable of being used on transmit as well as receive.

The antenna was here when I got home. Thanks for the super fast shipping.

I have been using it for just a little while now but it definitely provides an incredible increase in signal strength. Signals that did not register on the S meter at all are now two or three bars on the R-20.

The only drawback is that I will be tired all day because I've stayed up late listening to a world of signals I could never hear before.

I will send you some cash to cover the added shipping expense.

Thanks again.
